The club’s road rally championship is being led by Malcolm Holdsworth in the driver’s section and jointly by Andrew Fish and Richard Holdsworth in the navigator’s section. The stage leading driver is Tony Thompson and co-driver by Jack Morton and Ronnie Roughead. There was no outstanding acheivement award given last month as nobody did anything outstanding, apparently. To me this proves the worth of the award rather than routinely awarding mediocrity, although my effort at cleaning my car and polishing it should have been rewarded!!

ALM Stages, the club’s own tarmac stage rally on Teesside, although poorly supported was a great event, young Jack Morton was in the winning car, Jimmy Knox entertained as only he can in his BMW M3, Tony Thompson retired with a mystery fuel leak, everybody had a good day; I was in with my old pal Malcolm Holdsworth in his road rally Honda Civic 1600, when he asked me I did not hesitate but then the last time I did a stage event Elvis was still alive! Anyway when the alarm went off at quarter to five it all became reality. Malcolm drove down in the rally car and I drove the service van, we arrived early and got noise tested and scrutineered, signed on then set up for service and swapped from road rally to tarmac stage tyres. No nerves yet, not used to helmet or intercom. The first two stages passed with only a spin on the damp track, Stage 3 saw my only error of the day, I decided before the stage start which way to go at the splits but of course I got one wrong so we did some extra mileage, cost in time was less than a minute, sorry Malc. Malcolm drove well no drama, I was not scared or sick so all in all it was a good day for us and the car was fine, would I do it again ? Yes I would, many thanks to all concerned for running this great little rally.

Mac Cliff
